OpenAI Researcher Leaves Again, This Time for Meta's Superintelligence Labs

Top AI researcher Luke Metz is switching jobs again, moving from OpenAI to Meta's Superintelligence Labs. This is his third job change in two years. Meta is accelerating its next-generation AI efforts through dual investment in capital and talent.

The movement of top AI researchers has never stopped.

According to Axios, citing sources familiar with the matter, renowned AI researcher Luke Metz has officially left OpenAI to join Meta's Superintelligence Labs, starting this week.

This is already his third job change in two years.

Metz's career trajectory has essentially been a back-and-forth between top AI labs:

- In 2024, he left OpenAI to join Thinking Machines, founded by former OpenAI executive Mira Murati

- Earlier this year, he returned to OpenAI

- Now, he is moving to Meta

This time he joins the AI business team led by Alexandr Wang. Wang is the founder and former CEO of Scale AI. Meta previously reached a multi-billion-dollar partnership with Scale AI and brought Wang into its ranks.

The news was first disclosed by X platform tipster ArfurGrok.

For Meta, this is another move in its continued effort to attract top AI talent. From the Scale AI partnership to the addition of Alexandr Wang, and now the arrival of core researchers like Luke Metz, Meta's investment in high-end talent has not let up.

Top researchers jumping between different labs has become the norm in this industry. Behind every move is a contest of real money and strategic direction.

This time, it's Meta's turn.
