Claude Code is now on the web version, goodbye terminal

Claude has launched a web version of programming features, allowing users to write code without opening a terminal. Some see it as lowering the barrier to entry, while others worry about sandboxed security and operational details.

Yesterday, Claude introduced the Code feature on the web, now users can write code without opening a terminal.

The interface is quite simple, with the orange mascot on the left and the task list on the right. Multiple tasks can be assigned simultaneously, and progress can be monitored in the browser or iOS app. The official says it's suitable for handling backlog bugs, daily fixes, and parallel development.

Currently, it's in research preview mode and is only available to Pro and Max users.

Reactions have been mixed. Brew & AI says it's a great way to lower the barrier to entry—no installation, no terminal, just click to use. Dan Shipper's team tested it for a few days and found it quite good.

But Greg Boser wasn't as lucky. On his first use of the web version, he messed up everything Claude did on the terminal version in just 15 minutes, spending an hour and a lot of tokens to fix it.

On technical details, Somi AI mentions that the sandbox architecture is a true highlight. It uses operating system-level primitives to create filesystem and network isolation boundaries, so even if prompt injection succeeds, the compromised proxy is completely isolated.

Users have提出的 many practical suggestions. Some want a 'question mode,' others say they need a directory selection feature to start from any subdirectory of a specific repository. There are also concerns about security, with users hoping Claude won't call APIs from the frontend or check in keys to repositories.

Interestingly, before this release, some were comparing Claude Code to competitors. elvis tried ChatGPT's Codex but still found Claude Code irreplaceable. Roope Rainisto's analogy is more vivid: Codex is like a senior programmer, while Claude Code is like an average programmer—both are needed in a team.

Web-based programming tools are changing development methods. Nick Sebastian Seidel says AI tools are becoming co-developers, and委托 coding tasks directly in the browser is another step toward frictionless software creation.

As for the guy who said he could 'write code even while on the toilet,' you might have found the ultimate scenario for mobile work.
